The Konso Cultural Landscape demonstrates the shared values, social cohesion and engineering knowledge of its communities. The site also features anthropomorphic wooden statues-grouped to represent respected members of their communities and particularly heroic events-which are an exceptional living testimony to funeray traditions that are on the verge of disappearing. Stone steles in Konso express a complex system of marking the passing of generations of leaders. Konso is an evidence of how local communities can live in harmony with nature despite its distressing effects in some cases. The people of Konso should be praised for the conservation of this landscape. Ethiopia is proud of these hard working communities whose legacy made the country stood first in the number of its heritage sites. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism using its mandate as a protector of Ethiopia’s cultural heritage and historical sites support and follow up the site development of Konso for the benefit of the people in the area with concerned stake holders and partners encouraging them participate in the preservation and management of the landscape integrating local knowledge with the modern one. We then, commend the effort to organize an exhibition such as this and the respective catalogue prepared to promote Konso which will help all to explore more and introduce Konso to better manage its cultural and natural resources.
